Elland Road issue safety message ahead of weekend match

Elland Road has issued a safety message to fans going along Saturday’s game against Rotherham.

After the tragic events in Paris last week, security has been increased with searches taking place before anyone enters the stadium.

Leeds United will also be holding a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off and Paris-born White’s captain, Sol Bamba, will lay a wreath.

On their website, Leeds United has said: “As a result of the tragic events in Paris last week, we have assessed our matchday operation looking at what we can do to assure all fans of a safe stadium.

“We would request that all fans coming to Elland Road consider not bringing any bags into the stadium with them, as this will slow down entry.”

It says that ALL bags will be searched in all areas of the stadium on entry and tagged, which as a result, entry to the ground will be slowed.

The turnstiles will be opening at the earlier time of 1.45pm on Saturday.

“We are encouraging fans to arrive early, with additional searching to be carried out upon entering the stadium. We would like ask that supporters do NOT share your tickets or season cards with anyone, so that they remain secure and the integrity of the ground is maintained.

“We will be holding a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off for Saturday’s game against Rotherham United as a mark of respect for all of those affected in Paris. United captain, Paris-born Sol Bamba, will also lay a wreath in the centre circle beforehand.”
