Developers Strata Homes have outlined proposals to build a venue with 21 parking spaces, to go alongside the properties it has built on the western side of the town in recent years.

The land the community centre would be built on is vacant and has served as a storage facility for Strata while the estate, known as 'Elegance', has been built.

According to a design statement by the developers, access to the facility would be created off Seals Drive.

The statement also said that Wakefield Council had approved the principle of a community centre being built in the area several years ago, but the original location earmarked for the venue has now been claimed by a neighbouring landowner.

Strata added: "The community centre is set back from existing residential dwellings, to ensure that residential amenity is not negatively impacted and privacy of surrounding residents is not harmed.

"All residents of which will look onto the community centre were made fully aware when purchasing their home that a community centre was to be constructed upon this area of the site."

Members of the public are now able to have their say on the application.

A decision on whether or not to approve it is likely to be made later in the year.
