X Factor star Jack Walton hopes to release his first album later this year after spending a week recording in Los Angeles.

The 18-year-old former Castleford Academy student flew out to the US with One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson last month.

He spent the week working with other artists and writing his own music, which he hopes to turn into an album.

Jack, of Aketon Road, said: “I spoke to Simon Cowell after the X Factor and he agreed that the show didn’t suit people like me.

“He said I’d got a lot more potential than came across on the show and that I should use it as a platform.

“That’s exactly what’s happened – the X Factor literally has changed my life – but it is only the beginning.”

Jack, who quit Pontefract’s NEW College to sing full time, was knocked out of the ITV talent programme during the live shows.

He has been working with Louis since appearing on the show.

Jack added: “Louis has been a massive help. He has put me out there and there are some exciting times ahead this year.

“The best route for me is to get my original music out there which was difficult on a show like the X Factor.”

Jack thanked the public for their support.

He said: “I’m still living in Cas and everyone is still very supportive as they were when I was on the show.

“I’ve not had a bad word from anybody and that support is very important because Cas means a lot to me.”
