Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell is pleased to have extra time to prepare for his side’s first big test of 2016.
The unbeaten Tigers go to 100 per cent Hull for their next game to face a side that has blasted out of the blocks in the new Super League season.
It is a Thursday fixture, but with no match for Cas this weekend due to the World Club Challenge series the usual short turnaround problems of playing on that day will not be the case this time.
Powell said: “I don’t think it matters that we haven’t got a game this weekend. But we’ve arranged a game against Featherstone to give our fringe players a run out, players who want to press to be in the first team.
“Apart from that we are playing the Thursday after so in that respect it is probably a benefit that we have got a little bit of time.
“But Hull are going well so we know we are going to be on top of our game.
“We’ll have a little bit of time to prepare for it and we’ll need to get everything right against them.”
Castleford have won one and drawn one so far, but Powell reckons they will need to be much better to deal with in-form Hull.
He added: “Defensively I thought we were pretty good against Wakefield. But we are going to have to improve with Hull and Saints up next after a bit of a breather.
“We’re going to have to step up pretty much every aspect of our performance because obviously Hull are on fire at the moment.”
