SUSPECTED counterfeit cigarettes and pirate DVDs were found for sale in Castleford town centre.

PC Craig Steel, of Castleford neighbourhood policing team (NPT), recovered the goods after a tip-off from a member of the community on Saturday February 18.

A 40-year-old man, from Leeds, was arrested in connection with the sale of fake DVDs and cigarettes and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Sgt Paul Coates, of the NPT, said: “Craig acted upon an excellent bit of information given by members of the public that led to this investigation.

“We found more than 500 DVDs that were copied and a large amount of tobacco that the duty had not been paid on.”

Witnesses or anyone with information about counterfeit goods should call police on new non-emergency number 101, the NPT office on 01924 206210 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
