Firefighters had to rescue a dad-of-three from a house fire in Horbury.

Crews from Ossett and Wakefield were called to a property on Clifton Drive at around 12.50am on Thursday.

Three children and their mum managed to escape the house before emergency services arrived but the man was trapped in the bedroom.

Watch Commander Steve Mitchell, of Ossett Fire Station, said: “Firefighters from Ossett went into the burning house and rescued the casualty who was suffering quite badly with smoke inhalation and the stress that comes with that.

“He had to be taken to hospital for treatment.”

A spokeswoman for the fire service said an investigation found the fire was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Mr Mitchell said: “I must also praise firefighters Tony Mitchell and Steve Wheatley who braved the flames to rescue the casualty. They did a fantastic job.”
