Feed city’s kids, let them know it’s Christmas

Last week we told you about the Christmas Hamper Appeal 2015 that will be giving disadvantaged families some Christmas treats over the festive season.
Hampers are being made up at the Community Awareness Programme to provide food aid for poor families this Christmas.

The initiative - which is run in partnership with the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry and the Community Awareness programme (CAP) and backed by the Wakefield Express - has already received support from businesses and sponsors since it launched on Friday.

We are aiming to make more than 800 hampers – the largest number ever - and we need you, the Express Readers, to get on board and give us a helping hand to achieve our goal. Individual items of food and drink, finished hampers or financial donations towards buying necessary supplies are all welcome.

The majority of the hampers will be made at the CAP headquarters on Market Street, with the help of rotary volunteers. They will be handed out by the seven Early Hub Network centres across the district to ensure they get to the families who need them the most.

A basic hamper should contain tea or coffee, sugar, long life milk, breakfast cereal, chocolate biscuits, tinned potatoes or smash, tinned vegetables, stuffing, tinned fruit, angel delight, fruit juice, chocolate or sweets. They can also contain tinned ham or corned beef, pasta, rice, gravy mix or pot noodles. Fresh food and alcohol should not be included.

The deadline for donations is 3pm on November 30. Donations should be dropped off at CAP from 9am to 3pm. Alternatively, call Mr Dobson on 01924 381119 or 07767 057612. For financial donations, visit www.capcare.org or email [email protected]
