Castleford Tigers are delighted to have bucked the Super League trend by increasing season ticket sales on last year.

The Tigers’ new membership scheme has resulted in the increased ticket sales and has seen the whole club rally round with the first team squad signing up as members.

The 3,500 member target was passed this week and the response to the new scheme has pleased chief executive Steve Ferres.

He said: “We are in difficult economic times and that, coupled with the extremely disappointing season we had on the field, meant that increasing sales would be no mean feat.

“Very few clubs in Super League have managed to increase season tickets on last year, so it really does demonstrate how much of an achievement this is.

“I would like to thank all fans who have supported us as members so far as well as those who made the trip to Warrington. There is no doubt your encouragement throughout the game spurred the players on to a fantastic second half performance.

“I know there are still some fans out there whose disappointment in the 2012 squad’s lack of effort towards the end of the season has hugely affected their decision not to renew their season ticket this year. I do hope the spirit and character the players showed against a side vying for silverware this season, made them realise this is a new squad with heart and ambition who will deliver performances we can all be proud of.”

The membership announcement comes as the Tigers gear up for the first home game of the season against Leeds Rhinos.

Ferres added: “We have been working very hard in the close season to try and instigate change. We will have made some changes in time for the Rhinos match but the cable theft has certainly set us back.

“We would like to thank our sponsor, CBR Engineering, who has helped us by removing and reworking the railings that are located at the railway end as well as all staff here at the club who continue to work tirelessly to get us ready for the game.”

For members who have not already collected their membership kit and card, they must do this from the club shop by 5pm on Saturday as they will not be able to pick their membership up from the ground on match day. Bronze members will also need to exchange their voucher for a match day ticket either in the shop by Saturday or in the ticket office on game day.

Membership is still available from the club shop in Carlton Lanes, by calling 01977 555 336 and online via www.cas tigers.com before 5pm on Saturday.

The new membership will mean a number of procedural changes to stadium access at Castleford Tigers on Sunday and throughout the season.

Members will need to bring their membership cards to turnstiles 2-5, 13 and 14 where the card scanners will provide access to the ground. All members must bring their cards in order to gain access except those who have been issued with a one-off member ticket until their card is available.

The Wheldon Road End will be accessible to members only with the move made to ensure every standing member of the club will be able to cheer on the team from this stand. Members are advised to wear their lanyards with their member card on show to speed up the admission process.
