Firefighters were called to a bin lorry blaze in Knottingley yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.
Fire crews from Pontefract and Castleford were called to the lorry which was on the A645 near the Turnpike pub at around 2pm.
Andy England, watch commander at Pontefract fire station, said: “It was not too serious. I think he had picked up some hot ashes and then the rubbish in the truck caught fire.”
No-one was injured in the bin lorry incident but as firefighters were about to leave there was a separate crash between a car and a small van at the junction of the A645 and the A1 Business Park.
A passenger in the car and the driver of the van were both taken to hospital with neck and back injuries after the incident.
Mr England said: “The two incidents were not linked and were completely separate.”
