Firefighters tackled a blaze at a derelict hotel in Pontefract this afternoon (Sunday).

Fire crews from Pontefract and Castleford were called to the old Parkside Hotel, Park Road, at around 1.20pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said it’s thought that someone had gained entry to the building and set fire to part of the building.

Four breathing apparatus wearers tackled the blaze using hose reels.

Police had to control the traffic in the surrounding area while firefighters worked at the scene for around two-and-a-half hours.
