Fire at Hillside Fisheries in Ackworth

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a fish and chip shop in Ackworth this afternoon.

Crews from Featherstone and South Elmsall attended the fire at Hillside Fisheries on Barnsley Road at 12.55pm.

Jane Lingard, crew commander from Featherstone fire station, said the female owner of the shop was cleaning the fat fryer when it set alight. She was treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance crew at the scene.

There was slight disruption to an adjoining chemist which had a small amount of smoke damage but the business was open as usual from 3.15pm.

The fish and chip shop has been left badly damaged by the blaze.

Firefighters left the scene at around 3.30pm.
