Firefighters called to crash on A1(M)

Emergency services from across West Yorkshire were called to a crash on the A1(M) after reports of a chemical spill.

Fire crews from Wetherby, Killingbeck, Castleford and Cleckheaton were called to the southbound carriageway near junction 42 for Selby at around 9.50pm on Wednesday.

A fire service spokesman said it received reports of a collision between a car and a lorry carrying hazardous chemicals.

But when they arrived he said the lorry was not involved and there had not been a chemical spill.

One person, who had been travelling in the car, had to be cut free and taken to hospital by ambulance.
