Foundation goes out in district

A foundation that offers grants to community groups across the district is to host an exclusive networking luncheon next week.

The Community Foundation Wakefield District hands out the majority of its funds to organisations outside the city centre, and is keen to bring together the key businesses and influencers from other areas.

Following the success of a relaunch lunch in Wakefield, the charity has decided to get out into other parts of the region.

The Tale of Contrasts part two event will be held at King’s Croft Hotel from noon to 2pm on Friday, November 18.

Representatives will be on hand to explain their plans for re-invigorating the Community Foundation and to talk a bout its impact on communities throughout the 5 towns.

There will also be a range of speakers, including Steve Greatorex, from the Wakefield Whirlwinds Disabled Basketball Team, Tim Craven from Wakefield District Housing, a spokesperson from the foundation and a representative from Imagination Theatre Castleford.

Charity administrator John Major said: “While business is doing extremely well in the district, we know that continued prosperity and growth depends on having a vibrant community with the relevant skills and aspirations.

“Unfortunately, there are still significant areas of deprivation within the district. This leads to low achievement and poor expectations.

“We believe it is very important that these contrasting elements are addressed by demonstrating how we can all work together to make a significant difference in our local community.”

The Community Foundation Wakefield District was launched in 2007 and has awarded more than £1.4 million pounds to more than 1,000 charities.

It is now looking to attract businesses to become associates of the foundation.
