FRIENDS of Castleford man Adam Atkinson who fell to his death from the stairwell of a Spanish hotel last month are hoping kind-hearted residents will help his grieving family one last time.

An inquest into Mr Atkinson’s death at Leeds Coroner’s Court last month heard the 20-year-old suffered fatal injuries when he fell from a stairwell at the Hotel Martinique in Magaluf on April 17.

Since the tragedy, the friends who were on holiday with him – all members of local band Relentless – have hosted gig nights, auctions and raffles and raised £7,000 to help the family repay the cost of bringing Mr Atkinson’s body home.

But they are now appealing for one last push to help break their £10,000 target.

Gareth Yearsley, 24, said: “There have been so many people who have donated and helped out and we want to thank them for that. Adam’s family think it’s amazing, they’re chuffed to bits with it all and can’t believe how many people have come together.

“We’re hoping to hit the target of £10,000 so we’re saying, please spend one last £20 and make it a big final send off for him.”

Mr Yearsley said his friend’s funeral was held last week at Holy Cross Church in Airedale and was so well attended no-one had space to move.

A final fundraising event will be held on June 1 at the Village Hotel in Leeds, with live bands, a buffet, an auction with prizes including signed football shirts, and a raffle with a £2,000 necklace up for grabs.

Tickets priced £20 can be bought either by contacting Mr Yearsley on Facebook or by calling him on 07889 734249.
