Fundraiser in Featherstone to raise cash for cancer treatment

Valerie and Lindsey Coulson

A fundraising night will help pay for cancer treatment for a woman who could not get life-prolonging medication on the NHS.

The event tonight (Friday, December 1) at Girnhill Working Men’s Club in Featherstone has been organised to help Valerie Coulson, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014.

A fundraising campaign was launched to help pay for the drug Avastin after a funding request for the drug was rejected by NHS bosses.

Last year Mrs Coulson’s family raised £30,000 to pay for the treatment after deciding to fund the drug themselves.

In September Valerie’s daughter Lindsey Coulson completed the 26-mile Three Peaks walk, despite an agonising leg fracture she sustained at the start of the trek.

There will he a raffle, bingo and music from the award-winning band Code E at the club on Girnhill Lane, Featherstone, from 7pm tomorrow.
