Furry friends look for new homes

ANIMAL-lovers Sophie Knight and Grant Stogden are appealing to residents to adopt one of the 42 rabbits and guinea pigs in their Castleford pet sanctuary.

The couple – who started the Woodview Lodge rabbit and guinea pig rescue at their home more than a year ago – are appealing to Five Towns’ residents to adopt one of their rapidly-expanding family.

Miss Knight, 18, of Woodview Avenue, said: “We started with just four animals which were dumped on our doorstep and gradually word spread and we have acquired more and more.

“Rabbits and guinea pigs are easily given away free these days so it is very easy to get hold of one but just as easy to get rid of them.

“We neuter and vaccinate all our rabbits and guinea pigs and charge a small adoption fee which goes straight back into the rescue to pay for vet bills and food for the other animals.

“I have always wanted to become a veterinary nurse and my partner and I are currently living with my mum so we thought we should make the most of the space we have at the home.”

There is a £30 adoption fee for rabbits and a £10 fee for guinea pigs.

The couple currently have a list of 22 rabbits and guinea pigs which are waiting to be taken into the home.
