Good causes supported by village's annual tradition

There was music, dancing and food on Saturday as Darrington Feast and Fair drew hundreds of people to the village field.

Cash was raised for good causes and youngsters from the village primary school took centre stage at the event from noon.

The King and Queen of the event Ben Page and Jessica Fulcher, appeared with their attendants Max Oakley, Charlotte Johnson and Angel Davey.

They all are in pupils at the school on Denby Crescent.

Performers at the festival, which is organised by volunteers and has been running for more than 30 years, included Dance Fusion, Knottingley Concert Brass and rock and country covers band DB3.

Special guest was Rob Burrow, from Super League club Leeds Rhinos.

Children experienced bugs and insects brought to the festival by animal welfare organisation Reptile Rangers.

A beer tent served real ales at the festival as families enjoyed a traditional Maypole.

Among this year’s chosen charities was the Laila Milly Foundation and Cardiac Risk In The Young (CRY).

Cash was also raised for a breast cancer support group founded by former Darrington resident Rachel Brown and her friend Roy Brown.

More than 200 people also took part in a five-mile charity fun run.

Michelle Wraith, of Darrington Village Field Trust, said: “It went really well and we were very lucky with the weather.

“I think the event is in its 33rd year now. It is definitely part of village tradition.”
