A South Kirkby primary school was told to improve after dropping a grade when it was visited by inspectors from the education watchdog.
Northfield Primary School: With Communication Resource was given a “requires improvement” rating by Ofsted after previously being rated “good”. Inspectors said some pupils did not make good progress and high levels of staff turnover had affected teaching.
It said: “Staff change is a significant reason why pupils’ progress is slow and pupils are not reaching the standards they are capable of, particularly boys and disadvantaged pupils.”
But it said early years teaching was good and the curriculum was balanced. In a letter to parents on the school’s website, headteacher Martin Shufflebottom said: “The outcome of this inspection might well come as a disappointment to you, however, please be reassured that we are already addressing all the issues raised and will keep you updated with progress being made.
“On behalf of myself and the governors, we would like to thank those of you who were supportive when completing the Parent View on-line questionnaire and when speaking to the Ofsted inspectors.
“I sincerely hope, on behalf of the whole Northfield Team, that the school has everyone’s continuous understanding, trust and loyal support because we are confident that working together we can turn this judgement around and once again become acknowledged for being at least a ‘good’ school.”
