a convoy of scooter riders in fancy dress will join Father Christmas on his journey to give presents to poorly children in hospital on Saturday.

Members of two scooter clubs will arrive at Pinderfields Hospital after collecting around £3,000 worth of toys for children’s wards.

Toys will also be handed out at Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals and the transplant centre at Leeds General Infirmary.

And furniture will be donated to create a new family room at the children’s burns unit at Pinderfields as part of the annual appeal by the Yorkshire Beerpigs and Featherstone Spartans scooter clubs.

Organiser Sam Garside said two sofas would be given to the unit. She said: “It’s to have a space where parents can go and speak to doctors if they need to, or spend some time when things get a bit much for them.”

People are invited to watch the riders on their journey on Saturday.

They will leave the Hope and Anchor Inn, on North Baileygate, Pontefract, at 8.50am and ride to Green Lane Working Men’s Club in Featherstone for around 9am.

There they will be joined by Father Christmas on his Toyota-drawn sleigh, accompanied by six reindeers on scooters.

The convoy will then ride to Weeland Road, Sharlston, for around 9.20am, then to Pinderfields Hospital, on Aberford Road, Wakefield.
