A new summer healthy lifestyle programme for children and families across the Wakefield district is being launched next month.
Connect3, Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s weight management service, is inviting young people and their families to get involved in the ten-week programme, which will be held at different venues across the district.
It includes a mix of learning sessions about how young people and their families can adopt healthy eating and lifestyle choices, as well as fun activity sessions. Connect3 also offers follow-up sessions to provide ongoing support for as long as needed.
Jane Cockcroft, Connect3 team leader, said: “We know that childhood obesity is a real issue and we offer support and education for young people and their families to help them adpot and sustain lifestyle changes.
“This isn’t just about maintaining a healthy weight and body mass index, it is about building confidence and self-esteem as well as making choices that will have long-term health benefits for the whole family.
“Ultimately it is about having fun and empowering parents and children to do this for themselves.”
