The six exchange areas will get high speed internet as part of the Superfast West Yorkshire project’s multi-million pound expansion scheme.

Just under 7,000 homes and businesses across the county already have access to the high speed broadband as part of the project and the current roll out will see a further 4,000 properties given access.

The scheme is expected to make superfast broadband available to 97 per cent of properties across West Yorkshire by the end of 2015.

Coun Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for economic growth and skills, said: “This is fantastic news for businesses and people across the district and will help improve service for residents.

“Every day the number of existing and new services delivered to us online is growing to meet our daily needs and improvements to this service will provide faster internet connections for people to work, learn and play.”
