Housing bosses have donated advent calendars to food banks across the area.

Wakefield and District Housing’s (WDH) Cash Wise teamhas given 50 calendars containing chocolates to food banks in Knottingley and Pontefract.

Amanda Sheridan, Cash Wise team leader, said: “We work closely with the food banks and thought this would be a nice opportunity to give something to children who might otherwise not have had this treat.”

The calendars were given to the food banks after Cash Wish held financial advice workshops there recently.

Janet Burns, project leader at Knottingley food bank, said: “We’re always on the lookout for donations and hopefully these advent calendars will bring some joy to children at this time of year.”

Neville Hughes from the food bank at Central Methodist Church, Pontefract, said: “We’re extremely grateful to WDH for these advent calendars and would encourage anyone who wishes to donate any food to us to get in touch.”
