Farming land close to an industrial site in Castleford could be developed into a new housing estate.
Planning consultancy DPP, on behalf of Strata Homes, has submitted plans to build 152 new houses at a field off Whitwood Lane and Whitwood Common Lane.
The site, which backs on to the Argos Warehouse, would be turned into an estate with two and three bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses as well as bungalows and apartments.
In planning documents submitted to Wakefield Council, the developer said: “The development at Whitwood Lane of 152 dwellings will create an attractive new environment for people to live, work and play.
“The aspiration is to develop a scheme which is based on the traditional character of the local area.
“Our manifesto includes a commitment to high quality design which it is hoped will improve the overall appearance of the area as well as creating a distinctive new place for housing.
“The scheme will provide a variety of housing types and will include attractive areas of open space and a network of connective links which will be of benefit to the wider community.”
The housing scheme would be accessed off Whitwood Lane and would include parking spaces and a central green communal area.
The land, close to Whitwood Enterprise Park, has been allocated for development for more than a decade.
In 2007, planning permission was granted for a large housing estate, commercial space and a play area to be built at the site.
The development was never built.
Plans were also approved to build 88 homes on part of the land in 2013.
But no development has yet taken place.
