Improved facilities at libraries in Wakefield district

Wakefield Council has launched a new 24/7 digital library where people can browse titles, learn a new language and download e-audiobooks and e-magazines to their computer or tablet. The service will also allow people to reserve books and renew their books and loans online.

From next Monday, the libraries will also open over lunch and there will be one late night a week at each branch.

The libraries include Airedale, Castleford Forum, Featherstone, Hemsworth, Horbury, Knottingley, Normanton, Pontefract, Sandal and South Elmsall.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “This is great news for the people of Wakefield and means residents can stay longer to enjoy what we have on offer in these libraries.

“I am also delighted to announce this new digital library, which aims to make things easier for everyone to have a good read of their favourite book.

“With technology rapidly changing this will be a fantastic way for people to carry out tasks like renewing their book from the comfort of their home.”
