Increased Wakefield Council parking charges come into force today
The cash-strapped authority has slapped an extra 10p on the cost of on and off street parking across the whole of the district - the first increase in five years.
Town hall bosses said the move was necessary to cover the costs of providing parking services.

Hide AdGovernment cuts to local authority funding mean Wakefield Council must save £27m this year, on top of £119m already slashed from its budget since 2011.
Announcing the new parking fees, Wakefield Council said a review of parking charges would also be carried out, along with a public consultation on its parking policy.
The council said: “The aim of the new approach is to try and provide more support for the economic growth of local businesses, meet the needs of people who come into the city and town centres and ensure the Council can continue to maintain and improve parking facilities.”
Wakefield Council has also taken over responsibility for parking enforcement from West Yorkshire Police, with civil officers allowed to hand out £50 and £70 penalty notices to drivers who break the rules.
