Women in the Five Towns are being urged to kickstart their new year by signing up to the Race for Life 2015.
Entries are now open for the 5k or 10k events at 10.30am on Sunday, July 19, at Pontefract Racecourse.
The women-only events, which take place across the country, raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity. Last year, 1,930 women took part in Pontefract and raised a fantastic £98,500. This year, organisers are hoping 1,900 women and girls will sign up and help raise £100,000.
The Race for Life, run in partnership with Tesco, raises millions of pounds every year to help fund life-saving research into cancer.
Sarah Threadgall, Cancer Research UK’s Pontefract event manager, said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.
“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those January blues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life.
“Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Pontefract to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
To sign up for the event, visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0300 1230770. Registration costs £14.99 for adults and £10 for children, to cover the cost of staging the events.
