JJ fundraising target in sight

They will use the money to buy specialist equipment for two-year-old JJ, who was paralysed from the chest down in a head-on car accident in March.

More than £6,000 has been raised since the Express-backed campaign began six weeks ago.

Money is still being counted from a number of recent fundraising events in the South Elmsall community.

JJ’s mum, Katy Michalowska, said: “We are doing brilliantly with the fundraising.

“I can’t thank people enough for all the support they have given us and the events they have put on to raise money.

“JJ is a little fighter and going strong. We can’t wait until he is out of hospital and we are back together as a family.

“This money will make a huge difference to our lives. It means that when we get JJ home we can buy the equipment to support him.

“He really needs the electric wheelchair to give him back some of his independence.”

The family were invited to two fundraising events at the weekend at Normanton police station and South Elmsall fire station.

Mrs Michalowska said: “JJ had two really great days. He loved the hook-a-duck and being able to use the hose at the fire station.

“At the police station he got to look at the bikes and cars, see the police dogs and had his fingerprints done. It was a fantastic experience for him.”

ET Martial Arts Academy of Seven Golden Dragons will take on a fitness and ice bucket challenge in aid of JJ’s cause on Sunday. And a family fun day will raise money at Moorthorpe Recreational Club on September 21.
