Pontefract solicitor Andrew Mawdsley is swapping his suit and briefcase for a bike and running shoes for Macmillan Cancer Suppport next month.

Andrew, 41, who works at Carters Solicitors on Ropergate, is taking part in the Yorkshire Triathlon at Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield on July 7.

He is hoping to beat the fundraising total of his colleague Anne Caswell, who held a will writing month for the charity in February, making £3,000 for Macmillan.

Andrew said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, I used to do a lot of running when I was younger, but this is a whole new challenge for me.

“The idea is I get fit and raise some money for Macmillan, so it’s a win-win situation.”

Andrew will swim 400m, cycle 12km and then run 2.5km in the challenge.

He added: “I started training in January, but it’s getting more intense now, it’s building up to a crescendo.

“I’ve not managed to swim the required distance yet, that’s the hardest bit, and I need to be doing some open water swims.”
