Llamas on the loose

TWO dog wardens came to the rescue in South Hiendley - after a pair of llamas went on the run this morning (Tuesday).

Wakefield Council wardens Mark Douglas and Mali Tomlinson were alerted by staff at the South Kirkby Waste Depot about two llamas on the loose on South Hiendley Common.

They raced to the scene and rounded up the frightened animals in an empty playground until the owner could be found. They then helped the owner put the llamas back into their compound, where they had escaped from earlier in the day.

Glynn Humphries, cleaner and greener service director, said “This is a rather unusual situation for dog wardens, however, I am delighted to say that they weren’t ‘alarmed’ by it and that their swift response resulted in a happy ending,

“I am pleased to say that we managed to track down the owners and the animals are safe and well. It just goes to show that the crucial service provided by our dog wardens can benefit not just the usual four legged friends but also the more exotic creatures.”
