“Training for me can be tough, both mentally and physically, many hours are spent on the water learning new tricks and making new routines for the competitions.”

He added that he also has to “tune” the Jet Ski itself to push it to its limits.

Davey’s dad Dave trains the youngster to make sure he is constantly progressing in the sport.

“But a competition normally lands on a weekend so I can work around it but finding time to train can be the hardest part.”

Most weekdays the teenager has college in the day followed by work and then has to train at various lakes until late. He said: “It’s hard having to come home from work and set straight off to a lake to train but we try our best to squeeze in as much as possible.”

But his hard work has paid off by achieving his goal as a national champion.

“So I joined the competitions trained hard and met some good people along the way. It was a tough year of training and, taking part in all the competitions, but the memories of being part of it all makes up for it. You had to give every round your all and put on a good show to impress the judges and gain top scores.”
