Pontefract-based former Grimsby Town apprentice Lucas Middleton is heading to the USA this summer to take up a prestigious football scholarship.

The Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy student will be joining Pearl River Community College, located in Poplarville, Mississippi.

He will arrive in August to study and play for the Pearl River Wildcats soccer team and will have the opportunity to combine his university studies alongside playing high level football for the next four years.

Lucas is delighted to have secured a soccer scholarship through the PASS4Soccer Scholarship Network. His achievement in winning such a high value scholarship and placement is in recognition of both his academic achievements to date and his athletic ability as well as an impressive highlights reel from his time with Grimsby Town FC.

He said: “I chose to study in the USA to develop my game and education in a new environment that offers excellent coaching and facilities.

“I am most looking forward to playing games across the USA alongside players from different nationalities.

“I chose Pearl River after speaking to the head coach Drew Gallant. I liked his plans to further develop an already successful team in a style which I felt best suited my own.”

Places in the PASS4Soccer Network Program are now available for students seeking to enter a US university soccer programme in August 2017 and 2018 with trials being held in Nottingham this month, London in September and October, Birmingham and Newcastle in October.
