Man arrested after attempted robbery in Wakefield

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery in Wakefield.

Police were called to a business in Westgate at about 5.14pm last night (Friday).

A man had apparently entered the shop and tried to steal cigarettes.

The culprit then allegedly ran away from the store empty-handed after the male shop keeper resisted.

He allegedly damaged the front window before making off.

A 25-year-old man was later arrested. Enquiries are ongoing.
