Man arrested after Horbury house fire

A man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis by police investigating a house fire.

Firefighters tackled the blaze in the roof of a terraced house on Millfield Road, in Horbury Junction on Tuesday.

Mr Redfern, of Princes Gate, Horbury, believes it was someone in his office that raised the alarm and called firefighters.

He said he and Josh Tomlinson jumped straight up and out to the houses to check there was no one inside.

He said: “We were in our office and noticed lots of smoke coming from the middle house.

“Me and my colleague Josh were braying on doors and windows trying to get into the houses.

“There were cars there so we were worried. We just wanted to make sure nobody was in.

“The whole estate was really smokey. The smoke was billowing.”

Mr Redfern said they were about to try to get inside the houses to make sure there was no one inside any of the homes when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Fire Crews from Ossett and Dewsbury, plus an aerial rescue pump from Wakefield, all attended.

And police were called to the scene at around 11.40am.
