Masked robbers threaten shop workers with knife and baseball bat

Armed masked robbers threatened staff at two shops .

The two men entered a convenience store on Cherry Tree Drive, Walton at around 2pm on Friday, February 12.

They threatened staff with a knife and a baseball bat before taking the till and escaping in a small grey or silver coloured vehicle.

Both men were described as white and in their 20s.

Two days later, at around 8.30pm on Sunday, February 14, two masked men went into a shop on Ackworth Road in Featherstone.

The robbers threatened the shopkeeper, with a knife and a baseball bat, and demanded cash.

They left with money and cigarettes.

No one was hurt in the robberies.

Police are appealing for information about the crimes.

Detective Inspector Tim Hunt of Wakefield CID said: “Enquiries are ongoing into both of these offences and we are appealing for witnesses and information.

“We are keeping an open mind regarding potential links between them and I would ask anyone who has information to contact Wakefield CID on 101 or the independent Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
