Four Methodist churches in the area have a new minister.

Rev Andrew Checkley, previously a minister in Chesterfield, started his new role on September 1.

He is minister for Trinity Methodist Church, Castleford, Airedale Methodist Church, Castleford United Reformed Church and Kippax Methodist Church.

Rev Checkley said: “I am looking forward to getting to know people in the community and working with schools across the area.

“It’s always a challenge whenever you take on a new area so it’s a little bit scary as well as being exciting.”

Rev Checkley, 42, has moved to Kippax with his family and will run the churches for five years.

He trained as a minister in Manchester while working as a civil servant for two years

He added: “As changes have taken place within the Methodist churches, gone are the days when you have one Methodist minister for each church.

“But that also gives diversity because you get the chance to get involved in a range of activities in different communities.”
