Memories of Castleford

BEING a Cas lad and proud of it, actually coming from Allerton Bywater, I am writing to tell you of my surprise and delight at reading the newspaper L’Independant dated 3/4 September while travelling through the Perpignan region of France, close to the Spanish border.

It was super to read about the Tigers, it would have been more pleasing had they won their match against the Catalan Dragons. The journal produced some excellent photographs and coverage which I purchased.

I was visiting the local bars but sadly did not come across any Cas supporters, as a matter of interest how many supporters travelled?

With my school mates I first started going down the lane in the 1950s and have followed Cas with interest ever since, sadly when the season changed around I was unable to attend home games.

I feel that a new stadium is the way ahead, however appreciating the strong feelings of some supporters.

My 90-yearold mum and brother still live in the Castleford area.

I will take this opportunity to wish the Tigers success in the future and to climb up the table and remain in the Super League.

Please pass on my regards to all that know me, I served as a police officer starting in Cas in 1958 and retiring from London some 20 years ago after over 30 years’ service.
