Morning raid shuts down cannabis farm

Officers from Normanton and Featherstone neighbourhood police team (NPT) seized 12 cannabis plants from a house in Sharlston on Wednesday morning.

The estimated street value of the crop, recovered from a property on Eastville Road, was around £600.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and given a police caution. Insp Dave Bugg, from the NPT, said: “The idea of people setting up cannabis farms in their home is one that never fails to amaze me. When you add in the risk of electric fires being caused by the growing equipment overloading domestic wiring systems, there is no wonder we continually receive community intelligence from residents who are quite rightly not prepared to put up with this criminality.

“I would urge anyone who suspects cannabis is being produced near them to call the police or Crimestoppers. Any intelligence we receive will be followed up and my team will target those responsible and improve our communities.”
