Motorists face delays as M62 work continues

The scheme - expected to take until the end of the year to complete - aims to relieve congestion between junction 30 at Rothwell and junction 32 at Pontefract.

It is part of the government’s £317m national ‘pinch point’ programme and will include new CCTV cameras and automatic traffic monitoring.

Data will then be sent to the Highways Agency’s regional control centre in Wakefield which will be able to apply temporary speed limits on new electronic signs which will also be installed.

Work on the project will be carried out on weekdays.

A 50mph speed limit is in place and there could also be overnight lane and carriageway closures.

Work is also continuing to improve junction 33 at Ferrybridge.

The work - which is due to be complete by the end of March - includes replacing a number of traffic signals, lights and bollards.

Drivers are asked to allow additional time for their journeys.
