New apprenticeship scheme launches for job seekers

Shoppers hitting the high street could bag themselves an apprenticeship after a new drop-in centre officially opens in Wakefield today.

People will be able to visit the one-stop shop, based in the Market Hall on Union Street, to find out about apprenticeships and get help with job applications.

The idea came from Cognitiv group chairman Dan Conboy, who will be joined by Wakefield College principal Sam Wright, Wakefield Council‘s chief executive Joanne Roney and council leader Peter Box to launch the centre.

Ms Wright said: “Apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly popular way for people to get work experience, earn a wage and gain a recognised qualification all at the same time.”
