New play area at Pugneys Country Park
Construction work started on the new play area last Tuesday, which will have a shipwreck theme and feature two timber galleons.
Children will be able to walk the plank, check out the park from a look-out tower and enjoy swings, a climbing frame and a sandpit.

Coun Les Shaw, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Pugneys is fantastic and these facilities will enhance what we already have in place.
“We have listened to what people have said they would like to see at the park and I am sure these new additions will be a big hit with the children.”
A ‘trim trail’ walk for adults will also be installed around the lake. The mile long route will feature eight outdoor fitness stations, which together will offer a full body workout.
Work will start on the trail later this month and it is due to open in April.
The park is well known for its water sports and will be offering taster sessions to visitors in May.
