Nominate a miniature hero

Do you know a brave, generous, courageous or thoughtful youngster who deserves a special treat this Christmas?

The Express’ annual Champion Children awards has been launched and we are calling for nominations of children aged 16 or under who have gone that extra mile and deserve recognition.

In the past we have celebrated pint-sized siblings and kind kids who have helped friends, family or neighbours, courageous children who have bravely battled illness and quick-thinking miniature heroes who have sprung into action during a crisis.

This year is no different. We want to give something back to the Champion Children of 2013. Nominated children will be invited to a glittering awards ceremony at Wakefield Theatre Royal where they will be presented with an award before being treated to a performance of the Christmas pantomime – Jack and the Beanstalk.

Last year we enlisted the help of BBC news presenter Clare Frisby to recognise the achievements of scores of children from across the district. If you know a young person who is a Champion Child please write to tell us about what makes them special. Please include the child’s name, age, address and their parent or guardian’s daytime contact number. Mark nominations as ‘Champion Children 2013’ and send them to editorial@wakefieldexpress.co.uk or deliver them to Express Champion Children, First Floor, Bullring House, 23 Northgate, Wakefield,

WF1 3BJ or Express Champion Children, 1 Front Street, Pontefract, WF8 1BL.

The deadline for nomiations is Friday November 29.
