THE Olympic torch will be carried through Pontefract, Castleford and Ackworth Moor Top on its way to the games in London next year, it has been announced today.
The torch will travel an 8,000 mile route around the UK before the start of the games. It will pass through the Express area in June and will also go through Wakefield on the same day.
Coun Peter Box, Wakefield Council leader, said: “The hard work of councillors and council officers has paid off and brought the Olympic Torch to Wakefield. I am delighted that we are on the route and have the opportunity to show the nation how much we have to offer.”
