Only 11 days of Christmas left until Wakefield hamper appeal finishes

Food and financial donations for our Christmas Hamper Appeal 2015 are rolling in to the Community Awareness Programme headquarters in Wakefield.

The initiative - run by CAP, the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry and the Wakefield Express - is aiming to collect 800 hampers to help families in need over the festive season.

The scheme has now been backed by a number of corporate sponsors, including Minster Law Solicitors, The Probation Service, the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry, Wakefield College, YPO, The Creative Station Wakefield, Holroyd Miller Estate Agents and Wakefield Council Supported Living Services.

We have just four days left to collect in the donations - we are appealing for complete hampers, food, money and toys. The complete hampers will be sent out as they are, while individual food items from readers, business donors and supermarkets will be packed into hampers by rotary volunteers. Every penny that is donated will be used by CAP to buy the necessary food without any administration costs.

The hampers will then be given out to the seven Early Help Hub Networks across the district and distributed among needy families.

A basic hamper should contain tea or coffee, sugar, long life milk, breakfast cereal, chocolate biscuits, tinned potatoes or smash, tinned vegetables, stuffing, tinned fruit, gravy, angel delight, fruit juice, chocolate or sweets. Toys should not be packed in with the food hampers and fresh food and alcohol should not be included.

The deadline is November 30. Donations should be dropped off at CAP from 9am to 3pm or call 01924 381119. For financial donations, visit www.capcare.org
