LETTER: Putting the record straight in Ackworth
The views of Ackworth parish councillors Sarah Balfour, John Bell, Amanda Cook, Mike Galvin, Allan Garbutt, Tony Hames, Sue Hollyhead, Terry Hollyhead, Martin Roberts
The letter written by Helen Parkinson in last week’s Express contains several false statements.
These false statements seriously question the reputation and integrity of the parish council and of its elected councillors.
Ackworth Parish Council has not endorsed the plans for the South Featherstone link road. The parish council submitted comments in response to Wakefield Council’s consultation on the Local Plan 2036.
These comments were based on a paper that had been circulated prior to the parish council meeting in December 2020.
The meeting agreed that its response should be based on this discussion paper.
These comments are on public view on the website of Wakefield Council. The response was also discussed at the parish council meeting in January 2021.
The council believes that its job is to represent the views of the residents of Ackworth, therefore it organised a survey about the South Featherstone Link Road in December 2020.
It was delivered to every household in Ackworth with the parish council newsletter, it was also on the parish council website and on its Facebook page.
The results of this survey were discussed at the meeting of Ackworth Parish Council in January 2021. The results were submitted to Wakefield Council as part of the parish council’s response to the Local Plan consultation. This document is also on public view.
All meetings of Ackworth Parish Council are open to the public and there are always members of the public in attendance at our full parish council meetings.
The minutes of the meetings are published on the parish council website. Recordings of the meetings can be obtained by anyone who requests them.
