John served with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry between September 1914 and July 1916, until his discharge due to TB.

Sadly, John never recovered from his illness and died in June 1919.

John’s medals were awarded to his mother following his death.

If you think you are related to John then please e-mail the group on [email protected] or ring Mike Howard on 07935446167.

The group has successfully donated three sets of medals back to family members and can hopefully do the same for the Birkby family.
