Should I encourage my grandchildren to stick to the rules?

Should I tell them to do as they are told by those in authority, because they know best and have the best interests of the majority as their prime objective?

Should I assure them that whilst it may be hard for them personally, it is worth it in the end because everyone will benefit?

Or should I tell them that rules are only a guide, a suggestion, something it would be nice to abide by but which are not really compulsory?

Should I tell them that rules can be interpreted in a number of ways and that they can be stretched and pushed as much as you like provided they don’t actually break them or at least not much?

Should I also add for good measure that you can ignore the rules completely if they are likely to affect you or your family adversely?
