Ossett Brewery to hold open day

For this pub of the week we are actually going to the fountainhead.

Ossett Brewery is turning its headquarters in Low Mill Road into a bar during its annual fun-filled open day from 1pm to 7pm next Saturday.

The brewery located at the bottom of Healey Road, Ossett, will again be supporting Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice through the event. More than £9,000 was raised for the charity last year.

Andy Pollard, sales manager at Ossett Brewery, said: “At this year’s open day we will serve a range of our cask ales from just £2.50 a pint and a brand new, mega refreshing pilsner, brewed with fresh ginger.

“We’ll be barbecuing locally made burgers and sausages, courtesy of Blacker Hall Farmshop, and selling a range of pies and pasties from Andrew Jones Pies of Huddersfield.

“We have a great line up of bands – who have all waived their fee to support Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in addition to brewery tours and children’s activities. We support Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice as they care for children and their families across Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees area’s which coincides with our own heartland.”

The open day will also include a grand raffle with some amazing prizes available, including four tickets for the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, four tickets to any Yorkshire County Cricket Club fixture at Headingley and ‘win your height in cases of beer’ provided by Coors Brewers.

Lisa Costello, community fundraiser at the charity added: “We can’t wait for the annual Ossett Brewery’s family fun day. It’s a fantastic day for all the family with entertainment for children as well as mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grandmas and granddads alike.”

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports 150 local children with life-shortening conditions and their families across West Yorkshire both in their own home and at their hospice, Russell House.

Bob Lawson, founder and chairman of Ossett Brewery added: “The annual open day allows us to give something back to the local community while raising money for a really good cause. We’ve our fingers crossed for a hot day which will help the atmosphere and hopefully mean we can exceed last year’s total.”

All proceeds from the event on Saturday, September 12 go to the Forget Me Not charity.
