But with Tier 2 restrictions currently in place across the Wakefield district, some of the usual activities might not be an option. We've put together a list of 14 of the best half term activities across Wakefield and the Five Towns this October. Some attractions may need to be booked in advance.
5. Story Trails
Wakefield Council's Story Trails offer a chance to explore the district's parks while reading stories. Families are encouraged to scour the parks and complete their activity packs. The trails can be found at Newmillerdam, Pugneys and Anglers Country Parks.
6. Swithens Farm
Located in Rothwell, Swithens is a working farm, which has been run by the same family for almost 60 years. The farm offers a festive Halloween pumpkin patch, as well as the chance to meet animals including pigs, sheep, cows, goats, chickens and more. Entry should be booked in advance.
7. Go Ape
If you're looking for something a little more exciting this half term, why not give Go Ape a go? The tree top adventure at Temple Newsam offers different levels of challenges, including zip lines, Tarzan Swings and much more. Tickets should be booked in advance at goape.co.uk
8. Fairburn Ings
The RSPB site at Fairburn Ings has reopened to visitors, and promises the chance to spot a whole host of wildlife. With pushchair-friendly walks and a selection of takeaway snacks and drinks, it's the perfect place for a day out this half term, no matter the weather.
