'Appalling scenes': Park revellers blasted for leaving 'mountains' of litter during hot weather
Revellers who left "mountains" of litter at a Wakefield beauty spot during yesterday's mini heatwave have been condemned.
Wakefield councillor Michael Graham described the scene at Pugneys as "appalling".
Similar public parks across the district and beyond saw thousands of people descend yesterday to enjoy the freak weather, coupled with the relaxation of lockdown rules.
Bins were left overflowing, but instead of taking the unwanted waste with them, it was simply dumped on the floor.
Coun Graham, who shot a short video to highlight the mess, said: " Appalling scenes at Pugneys after one day of sunshine. Mountains of litter spread across the grass.
"Shame on anyone who didn’t have the decency to take their rubbish with them as they left.
"Some people have absolutely no respect for our parks and no pride in our community.
"Please be careful if you are walking dogs around the lake as there appears to be a lot of smashed bottles."
