Castleford nursery sends 50 boxes of toys to kids in poorer countries
New Moon Nursery on Barnes Road gathered the gifts as part of the Samaritans Operation Christmas Child scheme.
The community also donated items of clothing to the Fairburn Clothes Bank, which will be delivered to people in need across the district.

Hide AdHannah Cooper, parent partnership coordinator and preschool room leader at the nursery, said: “The boxes will be shipped over seas to third world countries to help bring a smile to those less fortunate.
“We love teaching our children about giving and how we should appreciate how lucky we are.
“It’s so important in a pandemic charity work shouldn’t stop and we should teach children the gift of giving when times are harder.
“We see how many people are affected locally by the pandemic and some parents have even had to stop bringing kids to nursery.” The Samaritans-run shoe box scheme, which collects and distributes gifts abroad, has been allowed to continues despite covid.

Hide AdCuddly toys, yo-yos bouncy balls, among the toy Hannah said were being sent.
She said the boxes include items aimed at for all ages from babies and toddlers to teenagers.
Hannah added: “Thank you to all our parents, supporters and staff for donating and adapting so well to the changes.”
The nursery was given an award this year from DayNurseries.co.uk.
